South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone picked up an Emmy in the Outstanding Ainmated Program (for programming less than one hour) category this weekend for the Series 10 episode “Make Love, Not Warcraft”. The episode rapidly became an internet phenomenon thanks to its brilliant use of in-game footage and a healthy amount of WoW in-jokes coupled with the usual South Park toilet humour (yeah the bed pan bit – you probably shouldn’t laugh, but…).

In case you haven’t seen it yet, you can now because Series 10 is conveniently out now to buy on DVD. And I expect it wouldn’t be much of a challenge to track it down on YouTube or some kind of file sharing program either. South Park has done a great job of keeping up with the trends in video gaming and Series 10 also has the brilliant “Go God Go” two-parter in which Cartman freezes himself to speed up his wait for a Nintendo Wii. Great to see gaming getting acknowledgement from other areas of the media, but I hope that South Park doesn’t end up with a monopoly on the topic.

Other nominees in the category were Avatar: The Last Airbender, Episode “City Of Walls And Secrets”; Robot Chicken, Episode “Lust For Puppets”; SpongeBob SquarePants, Episode “Bummer Vacation / Wig Struck”; and The Simpsons, Episode “The Haw-Hawed Couple.”
